Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
The first session will begin with your therapist explaining therapy procedures and rules surrounding confidentiality. The goal of the first session is for your therapist to get to know you, as you are in the present moment (and to answer any questions you may have about them). There is no pressure to explain everything in a single session. The anticipation of the first session is often much scarier than the session itself.
Does Philosophie Therapy offer in-person Therapy?
Philosophie Therapy provides therapy via video call, similar to FaceTime. We do not provide in-person therapy. Your therapist will be working out of a calming, private office space, which you will see a tour of during your first session. Clients are typically surprised by how connected they feel to their therapist, despite not being in the same room with them.
How much do therapy sessions cost?
Our sessions begin at $140, for a 50-minute individual session. You can review our full list of prices here.
Does Philosophie Therapy accept insurance?
Philosophie Therapy does not accept insurance. However, it is possible to receive coverage for services. We can provide you with an itemized statement (called a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Many insurance providers will reimburse part, if not all, of the cost of sessions. Would you like to see if your insurance will reimburse you? You can check your benefits instantly here. You can read more about pricing for therapy on this page of our website.
Does Philosophie Therapy accept insurance?
No, however, we can connect you with a psychiatrist who can asses your symptoms to determine if medication would be beneficial. Philosophie Therapy provides talk therapy from a licensed therapist. Psychiatrists conduct assessments and prescribe medication.
How frequent are therapy sessions?
Typically our clients are seen as frequently as once a week and as infrequently as once a month. Clients often begin with weekly or every other week sessions and then transition to less frequent sessions as they see improvements in their mental health. Your therapist will never attempt to persuade you to come in more often than you feel is necessary (unless you are in danger of harming yourself).
How long do I need to be in therapy?
The length of therapy is a very personalized experience, dependent upon one's goals for therapy, willingness to engage in session, and ability to implement changes outside of session. Client's self-reports have taught us that many of our clients experience a decrease in anxiety and depression and improvements in relationships within 10-15 sessions. With that being said, your therapist will work with you to set goals for therapy and work to ensure you feel you are making adequate progress towards your goals.
Do you provide therapy to children?
Philosophie Therapy offers therapy to clients age 16 and older. We are best fit to serve clients who are ready and willing to work on their mental health. Children and teenagers who are hesitant to engage in session would likely benefit from in-person therapy with an emphasis on play therapy or expressive art therapy. Feel free to schedule a free phone consultation to see if our services would be a good fit.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes! Philosophie Therapy offers couples counseling to dating, engaged, and married couples of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Do you offer family therapy?
Philosophie Therapy does not provide family therapy, however, when working with individuals, family members may join a session if the therapist and client agree that it would be beneficial to the client's mental health.
